Over the years I’ve had a lot of great opportunities to write articles for various publications, and these writing assignments captured my attention and got me thinking about topics which have become main themes in my playing and teaching. An assignment to write for “Jazz Player Magazine” back in the early 2000’s led to a set of monthly articles that became the book “Melodic Improvising”, published by Advance Music in 2005. I’ve created some additional teaching materials using the concepts in the book that I’m offering you here as downloads.
My current book is called “Linear Tonality” and is described in 2 downloadable articles (and some reviews of them) that were presented at academic conferences in Krakow, Poland in 2018 and 2022 and led to the germination of my 2nd book. The challenges of life, and of this topic, have meant that the book is still a labor of love in a long-term development.
The other papers I wrote are also connected to the whole theme of melodic improvising and linear tonality, again from presentations at academic conferences in Poland.
